Many people find out about social networking from people around their friends. Then how do those people find out about social networking services such as twitter and Facebook? Those people again would find out about them through people around them. One powerful reason could be is that social networking services gets lots of sponsors from companies, and those company gets their workers to advertise these social networking sites. Another powerful reason is, these sns are spread through social media. For example there is a social networking service “GREE” that is quite famous in Japan. On television, this group would advertise an interesting game. They would say, that if you were to play the game you have to sign up on GREE.
Nowadays, there are many things you can do by having a facebook account. Even if you don't have a cell phone number, you can start line by just having a facebook account.
Personally, I never sign up for things using my Facebook account because the message that one sees before doing so asks if one agrees to having the 3rd party get access to your private information. I wonder why people would allow that. I'm always surprised by friends who don't seem worried about this at all.
